Artist Statement

Whilst overseas in 2002 I indulged my passion for Flamenco and travelled throughout Spain in search of 'Duende,' the spirit of Flamenco. Duende is that moment of ecstasy that Flamenco aficionados wait for with bated breath. It is that moment when the singer, dancer and musicians are in perfect harmony, all in unison to channel the intense emotion that underscores this dramatic art form. In my latest series of paintings, I have attempted to capture that spirit and convey the fiery passion that is the essence of Flamenco. Sitting in on rehearsals in the caves of Granada, attending performances from Madrid to Seville, travelling easel in one hand, digital camera in the other.
