Innuendo

CRITICAL OVERVIEW:   Saara Lamberg is often described as a suprising and thought provoking auteur with a flair for thrilling art and whimsical, dark humour with directors such as David Lynch and Yorgos Lanthimos and Roman Polanski being referenced when discussing their work. FilmInk in 2022 wrote about “The Saara Lamberg Effect” (movie Westermarck Effect 2022), The Movie Blog 2017 wrote: “A very important piece of Aussie cinema -- The overall vibe is reminiscent of many of the legendary 1970s indie classics from downunder, such as Picnic at Hanging Rock, Sunday Too Far Away, Walkabout and The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith” (movie Innuendo 2017). The third feature film The Lies We Tell Ourselves saw Saara Lamberg make a spectacle out of the screenings, wearing a red carpet and nothing else, and the film itself attracted prizes that didn’t exist before including “Best Rebel Feature Film” in Winchester Film Festival 2024 (a category created because of the film) and “Best Metamentary" at the Sydney Underground Film Festival. COMA (2024) a much more bleak and simple film has been compared with works of Aki Kaurismäki, a Finnish auteur. For awards list, please refer to IMDb.
