b. March 17, 1992, Melbourne, Australia.

BIOGRAPHY: Adrian Ortega is an award-winning Melbourne-based narrative and documentary filmmaker, and the founder of Proud Wing Films.

A first-generation Australian of Italian/Spanish heritage, he debuted with feature Cerulean Blue (2019), which premiered to sold-out audiences at MIFF, won the El Rey Award for Excellence in Film Directing at the Barcelona International Film Festival, and is streaming on Stan, Amazon Prime US/UK.

Under Proud Wing Films, he produced Senie Priti’s short Alba (2021, Special Mention, Rebel8 Award, Flickerfest 2021) and Aarushi Chowdhury’s debut short Clown (2023), which premiered at SXSW Sydney before screening at MIFF, Darwin, Byron Bay, and AWFF, where Chowdhury won the “One To Watch” award.

Ortega’s second feature, Westgate, had its world premiere at the 73rd Melbourne International Film Festival in 2025.

CRITICAL OVERVIEW: Adrian has a deep passion for telling stories about flawed individuals, especially ones from his life. Characters who have questionable motives and make even more questionable decisions in their search for salvation.

He is inspired by European art cinema, especially the films by Andrea Arnold, in how they portray these realistic three-dimensional characters that audiences can either connect to on a personal level or are fascinated by.

Both Cerulean Blue (2019) and Westgate (2025) have roots in these styles.
