2000 - Saloni M goes South

Deborah Williams

These works of art were exhibited at Saloni M goes South, September 19 - October 1, 2000.

I spent the mid to late sixties roaming around
the farm, chatting with the animals, playing with
my dolls and absorbing generations of family
stories.

I studied History, then Education and worked for
several years as both a teacher and community
artist, working with disadvantaged youth and adults.

Recent community art projects include,
Mosaic at Maidstone Special School
Religious Icons, Textile works at St. Ignatius
Church, Richmond, The Moreland Sculpture
Show, CERES The Christmas Tree Project
at Box Hill Council Royal Park Hospital,
Textile and Portraiture Project.

I have been a practising artist, working in
the area of collage, for numerous years and
have had exhibitions in both Melbourne and
regional Victoria.

My love of history informs my art and I have
always been interested in semi sculptural
forms and traditional women's crafts such
as embroidery, crochet and weaving.

I love all forms of paper art and in recent
years, the engineering behind pop-ups
have been very intriguing!

Collage is my way of making sense of
history and by playing with the stories,
I like to think I create humorous,
imaginary futures.
