2000 - Saloni M goes South

Grant Finck

These works of art were exhibited at Saloni M goes South, September 19 - October 1, 2000.

Sculptor

Born in Edenhope, Victoria in 1959.

I grew up in Dandenong and then Portland, western Victoria, where I established my first Ceramics workshop in 1979.

I lived and worked on Philip Island from 1984 to 1989.

I studied Ceramics in Britain in 1980-81 and have a Graduate Diploma in Sculpture (1991) but consider myself to be largely self taught.

Travel has been an important part of my life, having spent time in Asia, the South Pacific and Europe.

Since 1996 I have completed four major public commissions.

From 1993 to 1997 I was co-ordinator and design team member for Creative Village urban design program run by the Victorian Arts Council.

I have held seven solo exhibitions and participated in over 26 group exhibitions.

My work is represented in five public and numerous private collections.

My ideas involve the re-contextualization of familiar objects, sometimes to invest them with a figurative quality or to alter the context of figurative elements through a process of juxtaposition.

Concepts revolve around a notion of identity within a context of contemporary cultural diversity.
